About this Event
GameCamp Edmonton's monthly events are open to all professional, indie, hobbyist, student, and aspiring game developers, as well as people who are working in other technology and creative fields and are interested in learning more about the game development industry in Alberta. While GameCamp's main community focus is based in Edmonton, we welcome anyone and everyone who is interested in being a part of our community, even if they're outside of Edmonton!
For the first GameCamp Monthly of 2025, we're kicking things off with a bang! This month, we welcome Bárbara Framil (Lead Narrative Designer, Inflexion Games), who will be sharing their talk on "Player-Centric Storytelling for Narrative-Rich Live Games."
In "Player-Centric Storytelling for Narrative-Rich Live Games," Bárbara Framil shares her experience leveraging emergent storytelling and immersive world-building for live games like Hunt: Showdown and Nightingale. She will explain techniques for transforming players into co-authors of their own game stories, nurturing a meaningful sense of identity and presence within the fantasy world. Through case studies and examples from her documentation, Bárbara will address the challenges of balancing player freedom with production constraints while collaborating across disciplines to create cohesive and impactful narrative experiences.
This event is being hosted at the Stanley Milner Downtown branch of the Edmonton Public Library in the in the TD Explore Room (second floor)! After the talk, we will move from the library to just down the street for networking, catching up, and mingling! There will also be appetizers provided, courtesy of our friends at the ESIO!
As always, this event is free for anyone and everyone to attend, though please note that space is limited so RSVPs are required. If you plan on coming to both the Talk and Underground for networking, please sign up for the Talk + Networking/Dinner ticket so that we can let the restaurant know how many people to prepare for ahead of time.
