Exhibition Statement
The Fernie Visual Artists Guild consists of like-minded creatives and makers all at different levels in their art journey, from beginner to more experienced. This group theme was devised to combine our vast skills to construct a unified body of work.
Each participating artist had the same set of parameters to create work on textured wallpaper. Working with the same four-foot length, the artists were instructed to design on the wallpaper with any method they would like, but the image had to be of human quality. Mini workshops happened throughout the year as each artist contributed tips and tricks to guide and inspire others. This challenged all to discover working on a large scale with tools and methods they wouldn’t normally use. We stretched our imagination and skill set. Sharing each other’s knowledge during the process connected our voices. This show is a representation of our guild working together to encourage creativity, contributing to the community with diversity and playfulness.
About the Artists
The FVAG started in 1953. We are an informal group that shares an interest and passion for creating art. Our members strive to provide a safe and friendly environment by encouraging each other in their art practice. We welcome new members of all skill levels.
By sharing ideas and providing opportunities to increase knowledge and skill, our members gain new incentives and enthusiasm for their art. We occasionally arrange both formal and informal workshops and provide information on our Facebook page about opportunities for increased education in various forms of visual art. Our guild is committed to sharing our art with the community and has collaborated and showcased our work in the past at the Fernie Arts Station, the Fernie Museum, and the Columbia Basin Tour as well as other venues.
