Bon à Tirer, An Exhibition of Contemporary PrintmakingJuried by Judith K. Brodsky
Curated by Dave DiMarchi and Elizabeth Massa
On view: Nov 15 – Dec 10
Exhibition Statement:
Bon à Tirer, the common French expression for the final proof of a printed edition from which each subsequent print is judged, asks printmakers to consider the importance of contemporary printmaking in the larger world of artmaking. How do we, as printmakers, create space for ourselves and our work in and outside the structures the larger world of contemporary artmaking? What is the role of a printmaker in a world of point-and-click image-making?” This exhibition celebrates the enduring and evolving vitality of print as both a medium and a mindset: one rooted in repetition, precision, and experimentation. Bon à Tirer features works that challenge, expand, and honor the traditions of printmaking across two and three dimensional forms, including relief, lithography, screenprint, letterpress, intaglio, monotype/monoprint, risograph, and hybrid processes that incorporate digital methods alongside hand-pulled techniques.
Juried by renowned printmaker Judith K. Brodsky and curated by artists Dave DiMarchi and Elizabeth Massa, this exhibition presents work by artists from across the United States whose practices and works affirm printmaking’s continued relevance as a space for innovation, critical thought, and tactile engagement.
