THE GALLERY AT EQUINOX VILLAGE PRESENTS“Blind Sight” by Jane-Ann Bachelder Johnson
November 20, 2025 – January 6, 2026
Manchester, VT – The Gallery at Equinox Village is excited to present an exhibit titled “Blind Sight” by Equinox Village resident, Jane Johnson. A Gallery Opening with the artist, live music performed by Mark LaChac, appetizers and refreshments will be held Thursday, November 20 from 5 – 6 p.m. The Gallery Opening is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain on display until January 6. The Gallery is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is free to visit.
Jane Johnson states, “My artistic journey began in 2006 with my first art lesson in Sanford, NC, alongside a group of retirees and our incredible instructor, Barbara Berman. She was a talented artist and a natural teacher, especially gifted at identifying each student's unique strengths. At the time, I entered the well-known Sanford NC Brush and Palette show - novice category, and to my surprise, was awarded a blue ribbon. The judges' feedback read, "She has a perfectly skewed perspective, but it works, to which my husband replied, “I could have told them that!” They also appreciated my sense of color.
This show was inspired by our Activities Director here at Equinox Village, who thought it would offer a unique perspective: My journey before and after October 2024, when I became legally blind.
My hope is that this exhibition will be a source of fun and lightheartedness. My art tends to be a bit frivolous, and I encourage you to come and enjoy a laugh. I believe I haven't strayed far from my novice period; my perspective is still wonderfully skewed.
For connoisseurs of fine art, please forgive the playful nature of my work. You'll see my "Vermont Impressions" paintings, which are a whimsical take on the French Impressionist period, along with my pierced portraits and floral arrangements, all designed to bring a smile to your face.
I especially encourage young art students to visit the exhibition, share their comments, and pick out their favorites. I believe we are all born with a sense of humor, and I hope you'll engage yours and enjoy the show.
This exhibition is dedicated to Pete Johnson, for always striving to understand me for 65 years. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my family and friends for their tremendous support, even if accompanied by quizzical looks. Special thanks go to Barbara Berman and my original art class, to Andrea Stoehr, Ginny Longacre, and my wonderful daughter, Amanda Williams, for their generous supplies of fabric and other materials. And to Dricka Kimball, for truly "getting it!"”
