Joanna Cislak and Peter Blindt are both fulltime artists that live and work together in a shared studio in the Chicago metro area. They also are the cofounders of Golden Elm Studio – and have become a mainstay of the Chicago area art scene. In fact - their remarkable and sophisticated artwork graces the walls of many fine residences and corporations throughout the US, Canada - and – even into Europe. Together - Joanna and Peter have more than 30 years of experience as professional artists - and have combined to sell nearly $2 million of their art to collectors.

Joanna explores a variety of artistic expressions, including colorful compositions, figurative, botanical, and landscape paintings. For her, art is a spiritual adventure—a journey beyond what the eye perceives to reveal what the soul feels. Through her work, she seeks to capture fleeting moments of beauty and reflection that are often lost in the pace of everyday life. Light is her music; shadow, her mystery. Through their dialogue, Joanna invites viewers into a world beyond time—a place where the spirit can rest, connect, and rediscover its own beauty. In the studio, color, form, and texture emerge as reflections of inner experience, creating paintings that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.Whether expressed through vibrant abstract compositions or more realistic scenes, her work encourages viewers to look beyond first impressions and discover what lies beneath the surface. Each painting becomes an invitation to connect vision with heart and to leave with a renewed sense of wonder, joy, and possibility.

Peter’s primary expressions are abstract, landscape, and figurative painting. Each work evolves through a process of layering, revealing, and rediscovering, allowing the painting to develop its own visual language over time. Through this intuitive approach, he seeks to move beyond the initial statement of an image, creating compositions that reveal greater depth and complexity with each viewing.His work is driven by a continual pursuit of sophisticated color relationships, compositional harmony, and emotional resonance. Balancing structure with spontaneity, Peter creates paintings that invite contemplation and reward prolonged observation. Whether inspired by nature, memory, or the human experience, his paintings encourage viewers to slow down, discover subtle connections, and engage with the quiet beauty found within the layers of the work.

While working together, both artists often confer with each other throughout the creative process for critique and advice. They have even been producing paintings as a collaborative effort for the past three years under the pseudonym of “Laklin” or “JPT” – which their collectors have come to love.
