GALILEO AND THE SATELLITE NAVIGATIONScientific exhibition

On the occasion of the Italian National Space Day 2024, the Embassy of Italy in the Kingdom of The Netherlands and the Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam will run an exhibition focused on the Galileo Galilei’s idea of measuring time and longitude using his observations of Jupiter’s moons.
Several reproductions of Galileo’s instruments coming from the Galileo Galilei museum in Florence as well as clocks conceived for the same purpose by the not less famous Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens, coming from the Rijksmuseum Boerhaaven in Leiden, will be shown.
Moreover, in collaboration with the European Space Research and Technology Centre of the European Space Agency (ESA), the modern satellite geo-positioning system named after Galileo will be presented.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday 10 December, 6:30 pm, until Friday December 13.
Opening hours from 10 December to 12 December are from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.
On Friday 13 December from 10:00 am to 1:00 am.
