Mario kocha tańczyć i właśnie taniec często pozwala mu przetrwać ciężkie chwile. Dla kogoś takiego jak on kariera taneczna pozostaje odległą mrzonką. Mieszka z matką nad wiejską rzeźnią, pracuje jako cukiernik i podejmuje się dorywczych prac. Jego ukochany przyjaciel Lenz, pochodzi z bogatej rodziny i ma dużo większe szanse, żeby zrealizować swoje marzenia i zostać aktorem. Kiedy Lenz dostaje stypendium w Rzymie, Mario postanawia wyjechać razem z nim. Po drodze zatrzymują się w gejowskim klubie. Wydarzenia tamtej nocy zmienią wszystko…
„Dlaczego nie ty” to debiut reżyserski Evi Romen uhonorowany główną nagrodą na festiwalu w Zurychu. Evi podejmuje tematy straty i odrzucenia, nie daje jednak jednoznacznych odpowiedzi na stawiane przez siebie pytania. W doskonały sposób wykorzystuje malowniczość tyrolskich gór i wiosek, żeby przedstawić swoją historię i oddać emocje, które rozdzierają jej bohaterów.

Mario loves dancing and it’s the dancing that helps him survive difficult moments. For someone like him, a dancing career can be only a dream. He lives with his mother above a local butchery and works as a confectioner. His beloved friend Lenz comes form a rich family and has more opportunities to achieve his dreams of becoming an actor. When Lenz wins a scholarship in Rome, Mario decides to go with him. On their way to Italy, they visit a gay club. This stop will change everything.
“Hochwald” is a directional debut of Evi Romen that brought her the main prize Film Festival in Zurich. Evi explores loss and rejection but doesn’t offer any unambiguous answers to the questions she raises. Instead, she uses the breathtaking picturesqueness of Tyrolean mountains and villages to portrait the history and emotions of her characters.
