This enlightening exhibit, part of the Janice Foulks Catholic Culture Series at the Catholic Cultural Center of New Orleans, will delve into the rich tapestry of history, attire, and the significance of "wearing your Sunday best." New Orleanians’ dress for worship is a reflection of their deep faith, as well as their reverence for tradition and for the importance of bringing family together.
As we journey through the years, we will see how attire for worship has transformed since the 1800s. This exhibit will explore the evolution of clothing and its meanings across various decades and crucial world events, celebrating the enduring spirit of tradition and self-expression. As part of the exhibit, we will be proud to exhibit some of Mrs. Gayle Benson’s personal collection of her own Sunday Best.
