Gafieira Rio Miami is an 11-piece Brazilian big band created by bassist and Latin GRAMMY winner Diogo Brown. One of the most in-demand bass players in the industry, Brown has worked with renowned artists such as Laura Pausini, Buika, Nouvelle Vague and Gloria Estefan. To put together this samba/jazz big band he called on Latin Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dr. Pablo Gil, and also Pedro Carrero, former principal trombonist of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra.

With a powerful 5-piece horn section, plus bass, guitar, drums, percussion and vocals, Gafieira Rio Miami fuses samba, jazz and soul inspired by 20th century Rio de Janeiro joyous ballroom dance music known as “samba de gafieira.”. The repertoire includes gorgeous arrangements of classics by Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Alcione, Moacir Santos and more.

Vocal sensation Liz Rosa will be joining the band for this special concert. Singer Liz Rosa began her career in 2002 at the age of sixteen. After establishing herself in her native city of Natal, she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she became one of the most sought-after voices in town. There she released her debut album "LIZ ROSA" (Som Livre), which achieved critical and popular acclaim. With a charming stage presence and exquisite voice, Liz was featured on national TV shows and also performed with major artists including João Bosco, João Donato, Leila Pinheiro and Roberto Menescal. Liz Rosa has performed at several festivals and jazz clubs around the world including in Uruguay, Latvia, Poland, Canada, Portugal, Germany and China. In 2016, she moved to New York City and has been performing at jazz clubs including Mezzrow, 55 Bar, Jazz Forum, Zinc, The Django and Birdland.
