"An offshoot of Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond. I love it!" - Cerys Mathews, BBC 6 Music Gabriel Moreno is a Gibraltarian poet and singer songwriter. After periods spent living in Barcelona, New York and across South America, he currently resides in London. He has been likened to poetical singers such as Nick Cave, Bill Callahan and Leonard Cohen, and has released an EP and three albums to date - the most recent receiving airplay on BB6 6 Music - with a fourth, The Year of the Rat, due in February 2022. In this new record he explores the experience of lockdown - the struggles and revelations of enforced confinement and solitude. 2020 was the year of the rat according to the Chinese horoscope, and Moreno says that like the rat, it was necessary to employ shrewdness and ingenuity to survive this period, and attempt to emerge with something compelling, vital and positive. The album features collaborations with several acclaimed musicians including Ned Cartwright, Adam Beattie, Fiona Bevan, Pearl Fish, Pablo Yupton and DG Solaris. It was mixed by Chris Gadd and mastered by Erik Wofford (My Morning Jacket, Bill Callahan). Shortly before the coronavirus pandemic Moreno and his band The Quivering Poets won the Great British Folk Festival Introducing Stage, earning them a slot on the main stage at this year's event. Gabriel has also had 10 books of his poetry published in both Spanish and English, and is curator of the acclaimed Lantern Society songwriter night in London.
