Don’t miss G. Thomas Allen 4TET, led by jazz vocalist, composer and music educator G. ThomasAllen, whose unique soul-infused phrases, paired with improvisation both of contemporarystylizing to straight-ahead, classic jazz helped him to win the 2021 Sarah Vaughan InternationalJazz Competition. Recognized as the first and only male, in history, to hold the prestigiousSASSY Award – Downbeat Magazine.
Known for his warm timbre and stratospheric range, compared to the likes of Philip Bailey, he isone the world’s leading countertenor voices. Thomas has worked with jazz luminaires, fromDavid Baker and the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra Masterworks, top-tier ensemble work forWynton Marsalis’ “All Rise” tour in Europe, to being under the baton of Bobby McFerrin atCarnegie Hall with the St. Luke Chamber Ensemble. As a multi-genre Artist, Thomas is a formermember of Baltimore’s own Soulful Symphony and Los Angeles Opera – along with lead vocalson GRAMMY® nominated album “Choirmaster” (Motown Gospel 2020).
Other highlights: Black Pearl Chamber Ensemble, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Mid-AtlanticSymphony with past performances at the 50th New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, TD JazzMoody Jazz Festival, and White Plains NY Jazz Festival.
In 2020, Thomas’ debut album soared to No. #1 on the iTunes jazz charts (eOne Nashville). Hehas appeared on CNN, National Public Radio (NPR), performed at The Vatican, and top jazzrooms: SOUTH Jazz Club, Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem (birthplace of bebop), and thelegendary Green Mill – to name a few.
As educator, 2022 Carthage College Residency Artist and currently serves on the voice faculty ofColumbia College of Chicago, and ChiArts Conservatory.
