Join us for an insightful professional development session featuring the Global Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Roger D. Ali. This candid conversation will explore the current state of the fundraising profession—from trends in donor behavior and sector challenges to AFP’s latest initiatives and the evolving focus on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA). Gain perspective on where the sector is headed and how we can foster a stronger sense of belonging and resilience within our organizations and communities. Session will feature a presentation as well as group table break out discussions.

With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Roger D. Ali is a seasoned professional with deep and broad experience as a fundraising executive, administrator, and consultant, committed to the industry and the discipline, as exemplified by his election as the Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Global.

Roger is a major gifts strategist with a proven track record of leading teams and comprehensive fundraising and marketing programs to raise $150 million+, including several capital and endowment campaigns. Some of his previous experience has included: President & CEO, Niagara Health Foundation, Vice President, Development, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and Executive Director, Bishop Strachan School Foundation.

As an independent consultant specializing in governance, major gifts and campaign fundraising strategy and staff coaching, he is also a Senior Associate with S. Sutton & Associates Inc.

Roger holds a Chartered Director (C. Dir) designation in Governance from the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University; an MBA from Athabasca University; a Post Graduate Certificate in Administration and Management and is a Certified Fundraising Executive since 2000. He has continued executive level education at Harvard and Stanford Universities.

He serves on the board of directors of Imagine Canada and is the Secretary and Chair of the Governance and HR Committee ; past member of the Literacy Circle at The Charity Report; and past board member of the Hamilton Niagara Halton Brant (HNHB) Community Care Access Centre. He currently also serves on the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Global board. He is a Past Chair of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy Canada; past President of the AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter, where he was awarded the Recipient of Outstanding Leadership Award in 2017, and past Board Member and past Congress Chair of the AFP Toronto Chapter.
