About this Event
Welcome to the Future Ancestor Repair Cafes! Join us at Athy GFC for a day of fixing, mending, and learning. Our Repair Cafes are being led Nessa Doran O'Reilly. Our trade advice on the day will cover bikes, furniture and textiles. Please specify when booking which trade advice you require.
Our aim is that we will help to pass on valuable repair skills, reduce waste, and cut CO2 emissions by collaboratively repairing items with the public, rather than creating new ones. By inviting locals to bring in their damaged items to learn how to fix them, we aim to address the issue of throwing away items that could be easily repaired and given a new lease of life, especially as lovingly restored Christmas gifts!
With support from the Kildare Climate Innovation Fund, Athy Lions Club and Athy GFC, Blueway Art Studio invites people wishing to mend their loved possessions, from bikes to textiles and furnishings ( if items are too big please bring photos and we can provide advice on how to fix it at home) . It will be on a first come first seen basis with a front-of-house organiser who will book people in and give them a number.
Whilst this is a free event, booking is essential, to secure funding for further events. Please specify the trade you are interested in when you book (this pops up after booking!).
Come and enjoy and chat about the connection or memory of your items.
Details will be logged on day of the work that has taken place so we can see what has been achieved as a community!
