Working together with the Wellington Branch of the NZIA and the owners, the Futuna Chapel Trust have organised six back to back tours of Alington House, a 1960’s heritage modernist building in Karori.
A Heritage Place Category 1 building (HNZPT #7698), Alington House was designed by the late modernist architect Bill Alington for his family in 1962. Bill worked alongside local carpenter
George Nicolls to build the house using detailed post and beam construction and a regular geometric form and plan. The house received an Enduring National Architecture Award in 2007 and Bill was made a Distinguished Fellow of the NZIA in 2020. Bill passed away in 2024 leaving a legacy of fine modernist and durable
buildings for Wellingtonians to cherish.
Tour Group Times
Alington House in Karori will be open for 6x
1 hour tours for up to 12 persons per tour.
Tour Group #1 10am start/ends at 10:45am
Tour Group #2 11am start/ends at 11:45am
Tour Group #3 12pm start/ends at 12:45pm
Tour Group #4 1pm start/ends at 1:45pm
Tour Group #5 2pm start/ends at 2:45pm
Tour Group #6 3pm start/ends at 3:45pm

Important information.
• Please assemble on site 5 minutes before
tour is due to commence. There will be a
volunteer there to check your tickets and
give a Health and Safety briefing.
• The house is to be vacated at the stated
end time above to allow time for the
exiting of the group in an orderly fashion.
• A filmed 15min interview of Bill will screen
in the house during each of the tours.
• Maximum number of persons per tour
group is 12.
• Shoes will need to be removed
before entry.
• Access is by pedestrian path/track only.
• CPD points will be available to registered
architects on application.
• No food or drink or smoking/vaping
to be consumed on the premises.
• All funds raised go to covering the
costs of organising the event.
• The Trust is a charitable organisation
and all trustees are volunteers.
• The Trust is assisted by the Wellington
Branch of NZIA in managing the
tours on site.
• The Alington House Karori address will be
emailed to attendees 9am 13/4/25.
