Join Kal, a Minneapolis-based belly dancer, for a dynamic and welcoming belly dance class that draws from various influences, including Middle Eastern dance, American Tribal Style (ATS), yoga, modern dance, and ballet. Kal’s journey began with the PB&J troupe in Eau Claire, WI, and he has since trained with Spirit Horse Dance Company, the Cassandra Shore School of Belly Dance, and studied other forms of dance. His fusion style brings together all these elements to create a unique, expressive dance experience.
This class is designed for beginners and those looking to build a strong foundation in belly dance. Kal’s teaching approach is warm and inclusive, ensuring that students of all levels feel comfortable exploring movement and self-expression. Throughout the course, you'll learn essential techniques and develop body awareness through movement.
What You’ll Learn:
-Basic posture and alignment for belly dance
-Foundational hip movements like lifts, drops, circles, and figure 8s
-Arm positions and fluid arm movements
-Layering shimmies with basic movements
-Footwork and traveling steps
-Upper body isolations, including chest lifts, drops, and shoulder shimmies
-Combining hip, arm, and upper body movements into fluid sequences
-Introduction to musicality and interpreting rhythms
-Simple choreography that incorporates the techniques learned
