Let the sunshine in!Young artists will design their own bright rainbow suncatcher using real glass pieces when they join Kathy Downs on Saturday, Feb. 28th from 9:30 to 11:00.
Students will layer vibrant glass dots and shapes to form a cheerful rainbow design on a 4" x 4" clear glass base, then add fun details like clouds or accents to make it uniquely theirs. Along the way, they’ll learn the basics of working safely with glass, color placement, and simple design—no experience needed!
After class, the artwork will be kiln-fired, transforming the stacked glass into a smooth, solid suncatcher that sparkles beautifully in the light.
Perfect for brightening a window, gifting to someone special, or celebrating a love of color and creativity—this class is pure sunshine fun!
No experience is needed. Kids will have lots of creative freedom while learning the basics of fused glass design in a safe, supportive environment.
Kathy Downs discovered her passion for glass art in 2011 when she and her family moved to the Quantico, VA area. Initially her small glass pieces were unique gifts for family and friends but as her collection and skills grew, she started selling her glass to fund her "glass" habit! She now creates both large and small fused glass in her home-based studio and with 38 years of eduction experience, she is excited to teach and mentor aspiring glass artists through her fused glass classes at ARTworks Vass!
