Astanga Primary Series 100 hour teaching fundamentals trainingThis training will be considered as further accredited training for already 200 hour qualified yoga teachers. The purpose of the course content is to delve specifically into the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Participants will gain the knowledge as to how to share the practice of the Ashtanga Yoga primary series with all levels of students in a safe and effective way.
Course participants should have been practicing the primary series of astanga yoga regularly for a minimum of 2 years.
It will consist of 4 weekends of contact hours, During contact hours we will look at each posture from the perspective of:
Primary series physical practice
Philosophy of practice
Anatomy and physiology
Learning and teaching the traditional Sanskrit vinyasa count
Modifications for injury and individual anatomy
Suitable modifications to aid progression in postures
How and when to use props
Hands on assists for each posture
Verbal assists
Verbal teaching cues
Postural alignment to help with breath
Teaching practice
Teaching practicalities
Weekend 1
Sun, Salutations and Standing
Weekend 2
Primary Series - Dandasana to Navasana
Weekend 3
Primary Series - Navasana to Sirsasana
Weekend 4
Bringing it all together
Non contact hours will consist of :
practical teaching of the postures covered during the weekend, including assists, modifications, use of props etc
Prescribed reading
Self practice
Written reflection on practice and teaching
Contact Hours - 65
Non-contact hours - 35
