About this Event
Join experienced trappers and fur handlers to learn the basics of proper skinning, fleshing, and stretching various furbearers from your trap line. One of the challenges when getting started in trapping can be properly preparing fur. Fur Shed Fridays was created to support the new trapper by providing the equipment, space, and guidance to properly put up fur. You’ll gain the skills and confidence to be successful in fully utilizing your trapping furbearers
This workshop is designed for new trappers that can bring their own freshly caught or recently thawed animals to work with. If you do not have one, we may be able to supply one based on availability. Please email us prior to registering to reserve or check availability.
Each participant will have a workstation and equipment that includes everything you’ll need to get started:
· Fleshing beam
· Apron and gloves
· Knives, scrapers, tail strippers, etc.
· Boards, stretchers, clamps, and other materials needed.
All furs that are put up may be stored on site for future pick up the following week or taken home. We can even tag your furs right there.
Fur Shed Fridays is a great way to increase your skills and confidence in fur handling, as well as a chance to meet other new trappers and share your stories and ask questions.
Registration is required. If you are bringing your own legally obtained furbearer, it must be freshly caught and kept refrigerated or frozen and thawed for class. (Frozen specimens may take days to thaw so please plan accordingly.)
Please no skunks due to the shared space we’re working in.
