The FUNSAR course provides knowledge concerning the general responsibilities, skills, abilities, and the equipment needed by persons who are assigned to field operations during a SAR mission.The course content includes topics in three major areas: survival, support, search, and rescue.
The FUNSAR course is a prerequisites for the SARTECH II certification exam.
NEW PROCESS:
STEP 1 - Candidates must purchase the FUNSAR/SARTECH II Bundle ($70.00 for Pa. residents) available on the NASAR SAR Academy site, and complete the online NASAR Liability Waiver Questionnaire
STEP 2 - Candidates must download the NASAR FUNSAR Position Task Book (PTB) and the SARTECH II PTB from the NASAR SAR Academy.
STEP 3 - Candidates must attend an Instructor-led Fundamentals of Search and Rescue course. Successful attendance in the FUNSAR must be documented in the FUNSAR PTB which will be uploaded to the NASAR SAR Academy Site. Candidates will also be required to complete a FUNSAR Instructor critique.
STEP 4 - Candidates must successfully pass the NASAR SAR Academy, online SARTECH II examination.
STEP 5 - Candidates must demonstrate basic SAR competency through a practical skill demonstration which is documented by a NASAR evaluator on the SARTECH II PTB. Upon completion of the PTB, this must be uploaded to the NASAR SAR Academy for review and approval. Candidates will also be required to complete a SARTECH II Evaluator critique.
Candidates must purchase the FUNSAR Manual available on the NASAR SAR Academy website.
Additional Dates: 3/22 and 3/23
Course times: 3/21/25 from 6pm-10pm, 3/22 and 3/23 from 0am-5pm
Instructor Cost: $75.00 per person which includes the FUNSAR Course and SARTECH II Certification. Students are responsible for all other NASAR course fees.
Upon successful completion of these requirements, a certificate will be issued to the candidate by the NASAR SAR Academy.
