After our 4th SOLD-OUT party, we proudly present our 5th global extravoganza and an exciting club night programme.Funky Drummer merges live and electronic globally inspired music with a focus on the dancefloor and positive energy.
Venue: Yellow Arch Studios. Two rooms. This impressive space is one of the city's most historic and the Arctic Monkeys' birthplace. We are kitting out the venue with a stunning laser and lighting display to complement the musical excellence and have added even more production thanks to Raze Soundsystem ;)
Sam Redmore & The Tropical Soundclash – This hot 7-piece band is driven by Sam Redmore, the renowned club DJ and producer of global music designed especially for the dance floor. His music combines electronic sounds with live instrumentation and takes inspiration from house, disco, broken beat and funk to afro latin styles including afrobeat, salsa and samba.
His masterful debut album was awarded ‘Album of the Week’ on Jazz FM and played on BBC Radio 1 and 6 (almost weekly). Since then, Sam has produced his second very special album, ‘Modulate,’ which involved 36 musicians, including Dele Sosimi, and was released three days ago!
Celebrating the album release on a UK tour, the band presents an insanely groovy live show involving incredible musical talent like MC MR Auden.
Drifty & Kesh – Emerging from Bristol, both Drifty and Kesh are global bass experts and supreme record diggers. Drifty administered his musical expertise as Lost Horizon’s lineup programmer, and his productions include some of our most played global bass tunes. Kesh is one of Bristol’s most topical DJs, running one of the city’s most subscribed and favoured nights, Anexperience, and his own incredible global dance music festival. On a 1.5h B2B, We can expect a selection ranging anywhere between highlife and jungle!
Captain – Grew up in Sheffield but is now based in Bristol; Captain is a global selector, programmer and sound engineer with a great involvement in UK festivals like Shambala, Glastonbury and her very own international music festival, Tonnau. We look forward to a feel-good opening set of West African bangers with a sprinkling of highlife.
Phonetics – Funky Drummer friends and favourite local promoter. They have been running the show since the early 00’s. Having had everyone from Gilles Peterson to Fat Freddy's Drop guest at its original weekly incarnation. Rebooting over the past years has seen events with guests such as Onipa and BCUC, combined with regular DJ appearances across the city and at festivals like WeOutHere. We cannot wait for them to bring a dance floor loaded selection of broken beat heat.
DJ Nutzo – Sheffield-based selector and talented scratch DJ Disco Dave is hot off the back of festival sets, including Boomtown. He is bringing his bassy global senelction for his first appearance at Funky Drummer.
Bald Ethos – Manchester-based Funky Drummer resident Theo brings his vibrant digital and vinyl selection, covering genres from across the globe.
Jodie Tyler – A fantastic local DJ of all things funky, Jodie joins us for the second time bringing her selection of disco/ funk with some latin influence.
Funky Drummer – After a busy summer playing at festivals and events including Boomtown, Funky Drummer founder Peter Rabbit brings his joyous global bass selection in accompaniment of live musical guests.
100% of our events have SOLD OUT, and this will be the same!
