About this Event
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy are a high-energy band of superb, versatile musicians guaranteed to get you in the groove. Blending influences from Soul, Blues, Jazz and Funk, they play a range of classic covers and rarer cuts. Expect to hear funky tunes from Randy Crawford/The Crusaders, Incognito and Stevie Wonder, and Soul-Blues classics from Etta James, Melody Gardot, Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa and Marvin Gaye.
The Line-Up:
Sarah Allington-Clench (Vocals)
Accomplished vocalist Sarah is a drummer’s daughter and we like to think of her as a “musician who sings” rather than simply a singer! Her musicality shines on stage as she flows seamlessly with the band and delights audiences with her interpretations of classic tunes. She was brought up immersed in the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Peggy Lee, Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, and later discovered Janis Joplin, Carol King and George Benson. She draws from all those influences to create her own signature style.
Stewart Duthie (Bass)
Stewart is multi-instrumentalist across many musical genres, but his favourite role is playing bass in this band! He grew up listening to the Average White Band, Stevie Wonder and George Benson, and has been an avid fan of the genre ever since. Over the years he has served as leader/contributor in various outfits from Rock to Jazz, via Latin and Funk. Stewart is very active in the music scene and frequently appears at venues between London and the Midlands.
Tim Pettingale (Guitar)
Tim is a versatile guitarist covering a wide range of genres. He was mentored by celebrated jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, and has studied privately with greats such as Larry Carlton, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Julian Lage. When not performing, he spends his time creating educational resources in partnership with guitar players including Mike Stern, Robben Ford, Oz Noy, Steve Morse and more. He has performed with headlining acts at London venues including the Jazz Café, Pizza Express Jazz Club and Tate Modern, as well as being part of the only band ever to perform on the Cutty Sark!
Matt Telfer (Tenor Sax)
London-based saxophonist Matt Telfer has worked with many great artists such as Tony Bennet, Rick Braun, Chuck Leob, Derek Nash, Dave O'Higgins and Jim Snidero. Matt has played at many of the UK’s iconic venues/festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, Jazz Café, Love Supreme Festival, Canary Wharf Jazz Festival, and the Ealing Jazz Festival. Matt paid his dues playing with various bands across the West Midlands before moving to London to further his career, as well as seeking out top saxophonists from the UK/USA to further his command of the instrument. More recently, Matt is known for his jazz sextet Blakey’s Boys, paying homage to the music of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
Stuart Russell (Drums)
For this event, the lineup is completed by renowned Funk, Soul and Jazz drummer Stuart Russell. Stu has laid down the grooves for chart-topping bands such as Imagination, and is a member of the hugely popular Drizabone Soul Family. Enjoy listening to this top-drawer drummer create some seriously funky grooves!
