Curious about how forest farming can fit into your land use goals? Join Anna and Andy of Soulshine Earth for a guided tour of their 800+ mushroom log operation, nestled in the forests of southeastern Ohio.
Hear directly from Anna and Andy as they share their journey into forest farming and how they’ve built a thriving operation rooted in the woods they call home. The tour will take you through their forest and homestead, where you'll learn about their log yard, the evolution of their farm, seasonal management strategies, and the tools and techniques for inoculating and maintaining mushroom logs in a woodland setting.
Soulshine Earth produces and sells a variety of mushrooms for both culinary and medicinal uses, including Lion’s Mane, Oyster, Reishi, Turkey Tail, and other forest-grown species. They've also been steadily expanding their value-added product line to include tinctures, capsules, and more.
Whether you're new to forest farming or already experimenting with mushroom cultivation, this event offers practical insight into site selection, species choice, inoculation timing, and ongoing log maintenance. You’ll also hear Anna and Andy’s reflections on marketing their products and building a forest-based business that supports both their family and their land - with plenty of opportunity for Q&A and open discussion throughout the tour.
Weather: In the event of inclement weather, you will be notified of a cancellation and the event will be rescheduled. The tour will proceed as planned in light or manageable rain -please come prepared.
Parking: Parking is very limited, so we kindly ask that you carpool if possible. Look for Rural Action signage marked “Event Today” along the road and at the entrance to the property. A staff member will be on-site to help direct parking.
