About this Event

Enjoy finding and learning about fungi with Docent Naturalists Chris MacIntosh, Sabra Abraham, and Annette Herz. Discover the variety of colors, shapes, and sizes growing underfoot (or overhead) on this moderately-paced, non-technical fungus appreciation hike looping down the Chris MacIntosh, North Ridge, and Whittemore Gulch trails, then back up a very steep section of the North Ridge Trail. You’ll learn to notice the sometimes camouflaged, but always fascinating, fungi that flourish in winter. The rain (or lack of) will determine what fungi may be found. Bring stamina, curiosity, and lunch. (Note: This is not a foraging hike. No natural or cultural resources may be removed from open space preserves or other protected lands.) Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after January 25 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close February 7 at 2:00 p.m.

Where to Meet:

Meet at the North Ridge Parking Area on Skyline Boulevard.  This entrance is next to the now closed Kings Mountain Country Store.  The parking lot is 4.5 miles south of Highway 92, and 8.1 miles north of Highway 84.
