If you’ve ever struggled to find ovaries on a scan, felt a wave of dread at the thought of scanning a mare during a weekend on-call, or hesitated over which drug to use to get the ovaries to respond, then this course is designed for you.Whether you're a new or recent graduate heading into stud season or simply looking for a solid foundation in equine reproduction, this course will give you the confidence to assess mares before and during the breeding season for both natural covering and artificial insemination programmes.
You’ll learn how to perform breeding soundness examinations, manage the oestrous cycle, prepare mares for breeding, and carry out post-breeding treatments. You’ll also gain practical skills in ultrasonography of the uterus and ovaries, pregnancy diagnosis, and abortion investigation.
Before the practical day, you’ll access five online lectures covering all the essential theory. Then, join us at Twemlows Stud Farm for a hands-on practical day in small groups, where you’ll get to grips with scanning, hormone use, and decision-making in real-world scenarios. In response to delegate feedback, we’ve added a new session that tailors scanning instruction to your current ability, so whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, you’ll get the support you need.
