About this Event
Come and enjoy a friendly evening of rope tying. We offer a monthly class that aims to build fundamental rope skills. This class is suitable for complete beginners or those that want to build confidence.
The topic of the class changes every month, but you can start attending on any date.
Please note, if you are interested in a more advanced class, we also have an intermediate focussed class that runs on the 2nd Monday of every month.
Doors open at 7pm, class begins at 7.30pm
This class lays down the foundations of shibari. We will look into the technical, anatomical and intellectual aspects of rope tying. The intention of this class is to allow students to construct a variety of ties safely.
Suitable for: beginners or those wishing to revise their fundamentals.
You will need: At least one piece of rope (approx 7.5m), preferably two 7.5m lengths.
Where is it held?
We do our thing in the upstairs room of Ye Old Salutation Inn (The Sal), a kink friendly pub.
I'm new to rope, is that a problem?
This is an all-levels friendly event. We expect you to attend with no rope knowledge whatsoever, or you're looking to revise the basics.
Am I welcome?
We are committed to welcoming all levels, genders, orientations and body types.
What if I don't have a rope partner?
You don't need a partner to attend the class, a lot of people attend on their own to socialise and learn. Most techniques in the fundamentals class can be tied solo.
If you're on your own or new, we'll introduce you to a few people. If you want to arrange a rope buddy ahead of time, feel free to post in the group thread on our Discord :)
What rope/other paraphernalia do I need?
If you have rope already, bring it! To get the most out of the classes, you'll need some rope with you, unless you believe that rope is a state of mind (it isn't).
You can order rope for your class ahead of time.
The floor of the pub is wooden, so you may want to bring a blanket/yoga mat to sit on.
What are the rules/etiquette?
The etiquette is, in a nutshell, be mindful and courteous. But a few specific points:
- Respect people's boundaries- if you want to tie someone or want them to tie you, be prepared to take a potential rejection with good grace.
- Tie safely- check your partner's physical limitations and tie safely. We're not heavy handed, but if you deliberately ignore safety advice we'll ask you to leave.
- If you have any issues- have a word with one of the organisers and we'll sort it out quickly and subtly on the day.
- Clothing - Please wear comfortable clothing :)
- Do not capture an image of anyone without their permission, no exceptions, pay attention for people in the background.
Where can I park?
Nottingham is weird for parking. In most cases, it's cheaper to park in a car park then it is to park on the street, especially for long periods.
The cheapest parking is multi-story at:
Intu Car Park Rick St, Nottingham NG1 3PR,
But there is also:
NCP, Arndale Centre, Maid Marian Way, NG1 6AE
Nottingham Castle Car Park, Albion Street, NG1 7FF
The closest parking is onstreet around Spaniel Row/St Nicholas Street/Castle Gate.
Feel free to educate me if there are other good places to park nearby :)
