Did you know that minerals can glow under UV light? Join the KMGS Jr. Rockhounds for an exciting presentation all about fluorescents. We will talk about how different minerals fluoresce under certain lighting conditions and discuss what the difference between fluorescence and phosphorescence is. We will cover basic procedures and safety protocol for handling UV lights on your rockhounding adventures. And we will do a little crafty experiment to see fluorescence in action.
Do you have a specimen in your collection that glows in UV light? Bring it along and show it to the group! If you have a UV flashlight and/or UV protective safety glasses bring them along to experiment with.
Registration for this event closes Monday, November 4th.
