Entries must be received by Monday 30th September, 2024

TREC is a combined event that aims to reward any horse/rider combination performing well over a range of skills (not all of them equestrian, e.g. map reading) rather than their success in any one particular discipline. The three phases are:
1) POR (Orienteering) 2) MA (Maitrise des Allures - Control of paces) and 3) PTV (Obstacle Course).
Enquiries: Liane Robinson: 07458 352528 or email: [email protected]
For more information on TREC please visit: http://www.trecgb.com
POR (navigating) phase (approximately 12 km – 7miles) Following lanes and bridlepaths.
MA (Control of Paces - canter and walk over a distance of up to 150m)
PTV Obstacle phases (maximum height of obstacle 60cm)
The PTV phase is also open to competitors who wish to tackle that phase only.
This is run along the lines of the TREC, however, it is run as a pairs competition but with awards for the individual mixed with the pairs riders.
Competitors who are under 14 must be accompanied on the orienteering phase by someone who is over 18 years of age. This may be their partner, or alternatively, could be someone on a bike or foot (if feeling fit).
Start times and directions will be emailed out before the event. If you do not have access to email facilities, please supply a SAE with your entry.
All TREC competitions rely on the support of volunteer judges and helpers. Can you or anyone coming with you lend a hand? Can you assist us with judging or stewarding on the day? Competitors can also help us with setting up, clearing equipment away, collecting scores etc. No judging experience necessary – we are grateful for all offers of help and you will learn lots from the inside! Even a couple of hours help can make a difference and there are lots of jobs suitable for non-horsey mums/dads/partners. We provide all judges with free lunch and hot/cold drinks.
We will be setting the PTV and MA up on the Sunday morning. All help to do this will be gratefully received as it will speed this up.
Required EQUIPMENT:
Each Rider: Hard Hat – current standard, Sensible footwear, ID on horse (competitor number and emergency number of organiser (will be provided with start times)) and hi-viz clothing.
Each pair should have the following items between them: Compass, Map marking pen – fine gel pen or similar.
Helpful equipment for the POR phase: Map case, Drink/snack for rider, Mobile phone, Digital watch (or stopwatch).
Phase 1 – Orienteering (POR): Competitors are required to mark up their route from the master. Ten minutes are allowed for route marking. The maps provided will be on a 1:25,000 scale (4cm/km). Departure time will be marked on your scorecard. You will be informed of the speed for the first stage at the map marking. Time of arrival and departure will be recorded on your record cards at each checkpoint on the orienteering phase and you will be informed of the speed for the next leg. You may be held up at checkpoints to ensure that a gap of 5 minutes is maintained between pairs.
The route will be timed with variable speeds between 6 and 10 km/hour. In addition to the checkpoints there may be ticket points along the route where the competitors will be required to mark their scorecard. The speed will not be changed at a ticket point.
One point will be deducted for each minute over or under the time allowed for each leg.
Penalties will be incurred for missing checkpoints or ticket points, or arriving at them by the wrong route.
Phase 2 – Control of Paces (MA): Done as individuals.
• Over a marked course canter slowly, maintaining canter and not stepping outside of the track.
• Return at walk as quickly as possible.
• Points are awarded depending upon the speed of the canter and the walk. No points are awarded if the gait is broken or the horse/pony steps outside the track.
Phase 3 – Obstacles (PT V): Done as individuals
• Course of 16 obstacles.
• Obstacles are designed to simulate aspects of countryside riding, for example, riding or leading up/down hills, opening gates, crossing water, bridges, remounting, jumping fallen log, etc.
• Any competitor wishing to miss any obstacle may do so without elimination as long as they stop and inform the judge at that obstacle.
• Information regarding the planned obstacles will be sent out with the start times. Please read this information carefully as it will give information about the specific rules for each obstacle.
Trophies and Awards:
