Master Moore and his students will demonstrate Martial arts skills and offer information about learning Shorin-ryu karate, a branch of the traditional Okinawan Karate-do.Through its history, karate has undergone numerous transformations in its form as well as philosophy, due to various teaching approaches – some of which have led to its treatment as a sport rather than an art form. The true nature of this defensive art is best reflected in the words: “Karate ni sente nashi” (There is no first attack in karate).
Moore's Martial Arts is a professional martial arts school, established in Topeka in 1995, formerly known as Midwest Martial Arts. Their primary objective is making a positive impact on people’s lives through the philosophy and practice of the traditional karate-do. While sharing one of the purest forms of self-defense, they strive to build a bridge between the past and the present, through incorporating some of the traditional core values that are in danger of becoming extinct today. Through training of the body, mind and spirit, they hope to help individuals gain a better understanding of self and the world; become the best version of themselves, and as a result contribute to a healthier society as a whole. They see karate not only as a form of physical self-defense, but also as a catalyst to building character.
