Fisherfields 3 day Expedition
This expedition is 3 days including walking in and out. We will be entirely self-sufficient for this period, wild camping on route to really take in the remoteness of these incredible mountains.
2 Route Options
We have two options for how we undertake this round. This is due to the nature of one of the routes having a major stream crossing which can be impassable if in spate (water running very high & fast – usually around heavy rain / snow melt). This means we can’t plan long in advance whether this route is a possible option, as safety is obviously paramount. Therefore, our main option uses an alternative entry point to the area and the other route is a last minute option if the weather is looking favourable for us.
Route Option 1 sees us walking in via the southeast corner starting near Kinlochewe. This route takes in the 5 Munros but not the Corbett (sorry to the Corbett baggers!). This is a viable option in virtually all conditions and is our go to for this trip.
Route Option 2, although our preference of route, is more difficult to plan for due to the river crossing. This starts from the A832 in the North East of the Fisherfield area and heads in towards Shenevall Bothy. We undertake the complete horseshoe if we use this option, including up and over the Corbett of Beinn a’ Chlaidheimh.
When will we confirm which route we are taking?
We will inform you a day or two before the event whether option 2 is feasible for us or whether we will take route option 1 as a safe expedition to complete the 5 Munros. The route option will be based on the weather and forecasts for the period of our expedition
Where should I stay before the expedition?
We recommend staying around the Inverness area the night before if you are looking to book accommodation ahead of the trip to allow for any late change of plan from route option 1 to option 2. This is roughly 1hr-1hr15mins to both start points depending on exactly where you stay.
AP Mountaineering staff will most likely be in the SYHA in Inverness. If you stay at an SYHA while attending any of our events you can get a10% Discount with the code - AP10.
