In a world that often shies away from difficult conversations, Women Talking About Death {over dinner} offers a brave and beautiful alternative—a space to gather, break bread, and speak the unspeakable.
Talking about death is not easy. It is a subject shrouded in discomfort and taboo, often avoided at all costs. Yet, it is one of the most universal experiences we share. This evening is an invitation to lean gently into this discomfort, held within a safe and compassionate space, where you can explore this tender topic at your own pace and depth, in community. Whether you wish to share openly or simply listen, you will be met with kindness, curiosity, and care.
This event invites you to explore the tender and transformative topic of death, not as an end, but as a profound lens through which to view life. Together, over an exquisite three-course meal prepared by local chef Mack Isaak, we will delve into questions that linger in the quiet corners of our minds: What does it mean to live fully in the face of impermanence? How does the act of talking about death transform the way we love, connect, and show up in the world?
Guiding us through this evening is a woman who is deeply attuned to this work - Emily Bootle, founder of DeathCare BC, brings her expertise in navigating grief, exploring mortality, legacy and end-of-life planning, and compassionate deathcare . Through her gentle wisdom, Emily will show us that open conversations about death can empower us - creating clarity and peace for ourselves and those we love.
Additionally, Kayla Brazier, somatic practitioner and founder of Fullest Table, offers a grounding perspective on how our bodies hold the truths we cannot yet name. With warmth and compassion, Kayla will invite us to tune into the wisdom of our nervous systems, helping us navigate and sit with the often-overwhelming emotions surrounding mortality with grace and resilience.
Chef Mack’s thoughtfully curated menu will be paired with a selection of BC wines, libations, and non-alcoholic beverages, all designed to reflect the richness of the topic itself. Each dish will be a celebration of life’s fleeting beauty, crafted to nourish and delight.
We will also be welcoming you with a grazing table generously sponsored by Zaaz Eatery & Play.
Here, amidst delicious food and heartfelt conversation, you will find a space where vulnerability is welcome and no emotion is too big or small. Life and death are two sides of the same coin, and in talking about one, we inevitably illuminate the other.
Let this evening be a chance to pause, to connect, and to honour both.
Alcoholic beverages are not included in the ticket price, but will be available for purchase.
