In this introductory-level workshop, you will discover the meaning of water quality and how to measure it. Many scientific concepts will be covered, but at a level that a non-scientist can certainly understand through classroom discussion, hands-on chemical analysis using simplified methods, and collection and identification of aquatic insects. Coffee and snacks will be provided, bring a sack lunch.
After attending this training, you can perform your own stream analysis as a Hoosier Riverwatch volunteer and may submit data to the Hoosier Riverwatch online database. (Monitoring streams and submitting data is not required after attending this training but it is available to you if you are interested.)
This workshop includes inside classroom time and also time at the nearby creek. If the creek is unsafe for wading, we will have alternate activities to learn the same material.
