About this Event
Fuel their Future, Grow Together - A Two Day Workshop for Teens and Their Parents
The core skills we all need to grow and thrive in the world are rarely taught.
Many of our children leave school without having had the opportunity to develop vital life skills such as critical thinking, planning, effective communication, collaboration making it difficult to transition with confidence from full-time education to independent study and work.
But it’s one thing to know what’s needed – quite another to actually make it happen.
As parents, we are often at a loss when it comes to helping our children master these skills – not least because we may struggle with them ourselves.
With their strong drive for independence and unique perspectives, we know that guiding a teenager on what we feel they need to know can be a nuanced task.
That’s where we come in. This is a workshop for parents and their teens to take part in side by side and along with others. We curate experiences that are kind and carefully designed to highlight the things we need to know about ourselves, how we show up and where we need to grow.
This workshop is designed to upskill both you and your teen, equipping you with practical tools and valuable insights.
Aimed at older teens on the cusp of adulthood, it will help equip them with the skills they need to step into the next stage of their lives with purpose, confidence and curiosity.
And it’s not just the younger generation who stand to gain: this workshop is as valuable for parents as it is for adolescents.
How does it work?
This workshop is based on the principles of experiential learning, akin to the concept of muscle memory, we will work through hands-on activities to ensure you’ll be able to draw on these skills when needed in the real world.
To help you get the right things done effectively, whilst remembering yourself and your needs we share an intuitive tool - The Thinking Thread - to guide you in work and life and carve clarity from complexity. Nat Bear
With a common language and shared ways of working, you’ll be able to support each other by practicing and applying these tools in the workshop and beyond.
Our hope, is that you will leave feeling equipped to meet life’s challenges with resilience and hope, together.
“Post-pandemic, skills like career management, influence and problem-solving are more vital than ever but often delayed until later in life.” Institute of Student Employers, 2021
What you’ll both gain:
Essential skills: communication, planning, critical thinking and effective collaboration.
Shared growth as you work to develop insights and outcomes together.
A practical framework for self-direction and goal-setting, helping you align intentional action with clarity of purpose.
Wellbeing and performance tools to integrate the two, helping you to balance personal growth and development.
Confidence for life: skills that endure long after the workshop ends.
What to expect:
We know that entering a group learning space can be daunting, rest assured we have this in mind. Whilst the learning is action-oriented, there is no role play. Just some things to get done together in small groups, with others who are likely feeling as awkward as you - at first.
When you participate in our programs, you take part in a series of learning loops, in which you prepare for action, undertake a shared task, and review what happened before making a plan to improve. Each task is designed to surface what we need to know about how we show up and where we need to grow. Inputs and ideas are offered between task cycles so that you have time to integrate and apply.
At Common Thirds, we believe in learning by doing—through experiential learning that happens in the presence of others. We are social beings wired for growth and learning together is something humans are meant to do.
