To commemorate the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we invite you to a discussion about the war and the role of literature and culture in Ukraine—where cultural workers become soldiers, and soldiers become writers. Our guest for the evening is Olha Lundgren, librarian, translator, and publisher, born in Ukraine, who now runs the publishing house Lundgren Books, which has published, among others, Fotspår på vägen by Valerii Markus. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Robert Lindberg, known from the podcast Fronten, which he co-hosts with author Niclas Sennerteg. Lindberg has also contributed to the Swedish translation of Fotspår på vägen—a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age novel by Valerii Markus, a Ukrainian soldier, writer, and video blogger. Valerii had barely completed his basic training when Russia began the annexation of Crimea and the occupation of Donbas. The Ukrainian army was anything but prepared—and neither was Valerii… During the evening, Fotspår på vägen will be available for purchase.
