Join us for an afternoon live performance of guitar and lute music from the 18th and early 19th Centuries at Seventeen Nineteen, Sunderland's award winning performance venue in the historic heart of the city. Built in 1719, Holy Trinity Church was once the centre of the emerging parish, and now holds host to a variety of concert performances. An acoustically stunning and architeturally exquisite venue with many stories to tell, we are delighted to be pairing with Stuart for this truly special performance.
Stuart Willis read music at Newcastle University and studied lute and historical guitar with Nigel North and Jakob Lindberg in London, and Hopkinson Smith in Portugal. He has performed throughout the UK and Europe with notable concerts at the Handel/Hendrix Museum in London, the Bury St Edmunds Festival, the Grassington Festival, the York Early Music Festival, and performances at the Universities of Oxford, Durham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Stuart is the co-author of four volumes of guitar music published by Schott Mainz. He was the guitar and lute teacher for Durham University Music Department and now runs his own guitar and lute teaching practice based in Sunderland.
