A richly illustrated exploration of Japanese pottery traditions and their contemporary resonances. Drawing on his background in Japanese aesthetics and artisanal culture, Yago will introduce key elements of Japan’s long history of craft, with special attention to pottery’s relationship to everyday life. Hitomi will share personal reflections on growing up immersed in these traditions and how their absence in the U.S. helped inspire her vision for Hashi—a gallery that celebrates both Japanese and Japanese-inspired work by local artists. Together, they will show select pieces from their collection, highlighting how American ceramicists are adapting centuries-old techniques to local materials, kilns, and creative impulses.Presented by Hitomi Sovjani, founder and curator, Hashi Pottery Plus; Yago Colas, writer, teacher, and artist
