Take a guided walking tour through Weedon Island's aviation history!
Did you know that in the early 20th century Weedon Island was home to an airport? It provided the first commercial air service from Tampa to St. Petersburg, and in WWII it was used as a training site for Army and Navy pilots. Join archaeologists with the Florida Public Archaeology Network for a specialty guided tour of the Preserve to learn more about the island’s history with flight and visit some of the historic sites associated with it.
This tour is recommended for adults and youth ages 10+. Participants will walk between 1-1.5 miles in total. Capacity is limited so registration ensures your spot.
