About this Event

In conversation with Alun Graves (Senior Curator, Ceramics and Glass 1900-now, V&A South Kensington), Phoebe Cummings (Artist) from London and Dr Tasneem Mehta (Director, Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum), Madhvi Subrahmanian (Artist) live streamed from Mumbai.

Chaired by Clare Twomey

This live panel discussion between Mumbai and London will focus on the parallel histories and contemporary landscape of the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington.

In 1862 the Central and Economic Museum of 1855 in Mumbai was renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum of Bombay. In 1899 the South Kensington Museum of 1857 was renamed in Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Both museum charts the history of designers and manufacturers in art and design, locally and internationally. The panel will approach these shared histories and future plans through the ceramic collections of both museums and the artists that have been associated with them.
