About this event:

The first part of this workshop, You Had Me at Hello: Crafting the Perfect Meet Cute will be 1.5 hours and taught by romance author Lauren Kung Jessen (Lunar Love, Red String Theory and the forthcoming, Yin Yang Love Song)

In romance novels, the moment your love interests meet for the first time is called a “meet-cute.” Depending on who your characters are, this interaction can be sweet, tense, awkward, humorous, or swoon-worthy. In this workshop, we’ll break down what makes an effective meet-cute, analyze memorable ones from books and movies, and practice writing our own meet-cute.

The second part of this workshop will be 1 hour and focus on Publishing Paths for Romance Writers. Calling all romance writers! The path from aspiring writer to published author is filled with love, passion, and a bit of strategy. Whether you're dreaming of the prestige and support of traditional publishing or excited by the freedom and opportunities of self-publishing, this event has got you covered. With the surge in professional, low-cost printing options and the rise of e-books, self-publishing has never been more accessible. No matter your choice, building a dedicated team is key to your long-term success. Join us for an engaging session where you'll hear from industry experts, successful romance authors, and publishers about the perks and pitfalls of every publishing path. Get ready to take your romance writing to the next level!

Guest speakers will include:

Lauren Kung Jessen, a mixed-race Chinese-American writer with a fondness for witty, flirtatious dialogue and making meals with too many steps but lots of flavor. She is fascinated by myths and superstitions and how ideas, beliefs, traditions, and stories evolve over time. When she’s not writing novels, she works as a content strategist and user experience writer.

Lindsay Lynch, the author of the novel Do Tell, a USA Today bestseller, an Indie Next Pick and a featured title on the Today Show with Joda & Jenna. Do Tell is available now from Doubleday Books (US) and Hodder & Stoughton (UK)

A longtime indie bookseller, Lindsay currently lives in Nashville, TN, where she works as a book buyer for Parnassus Books. She also makes frequent appearances on The Laydown Diaries, a weekly recap of new releases from Parnassus Books.

Avalon Griffin, who writes paranormal fantasy romance with unique characters, far-away settings, and a healthy dose of heat. When not writing, she can be found traveling the globe in search of kitschy roadside attractions, off-beat museums, and cryptozoology legends. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, an ungrateful house cat, and a crew of rowdy feral cats.
