Jonathon Jones OBE, Managing Director, Tregothnan

Jonathon received an OBE for services to International trade and commerce. MD of Trading at Tregothnan. Also contributes to other boards including Plimsoll Publishing, and the Heathrow Business Council. He was awarded freedom of the City of London and in China he is known as the ‘Teaman’! He writes the words first tea column, published weekly in Country Life. It all started in Cornwall when he won The Ken Thomas travelling scholarship in 1993 and went to Japan. He eventually came home and became Head Gardener at Tregothnan at the age of 25. Tregothnan has a rich history of 700 years in Cornwall. The UK’s first tea plantations were established in 1999 and are now Europe’s largest tea gardens. The award winning luxury tea brand with ‘the most British tea in history’ is a central part of its global export business, valued at over £1m per annum www.tregothnan.co.uk

He believes there are huge opportunities to do better business, while benefitting the environment, and in his own time founded Tremap to map trees. Citizens across the world can get involved with mapping trees on the sponsored tremap app - to map every tree on earth for the first time.

www.tremap.com brings transparency to trees and is promoting the UK’s pre-eminence in environmental innovation. Tremap already has won the backing of the The Smithsonian Institute (USA), and was in India this summer, as well as virtually every European country.

Catherine Mead OBE, DL, CEO/Owner Lynhder Dairies Ltd.

Catherine Mead is CEO / owner of Lynher Dairies Ltd. makers of Cornish Yarg cheese. Business customers include national retailers, airlines and Australian and US retailers. In 2015 awarded Regional Manufacturing Company of the Catherine was awarded the Women in Business Award. Lynher Dairies won Supreme Champion at the World Cheese Awards in 2017.

Previously a Director in London based Advertising Agencies, Catherine worked with the Welsh Development Agency, Milk Marketing Board, Home Office, Department of Transport and Department of Health on campaign.

Non-Exec roles include Board member of the Specialist Cheese Makers Association, Vice Chair of the Royal Cornwall Show and Board Member of the Country, Land and Business Association.

Michael Bernard, Non Executive Director

Michael Bernard worked for many years for IBM, where his final role was Chief Marketing Officer for Hardware in Europe. In 2019 he joined the board of Southern Health Foundation NHS Trust as a Non-Executive Director, where he is Senior Independent Director and chairs two committees. He is a member of the International Advisory Board for Exeter Business School, an Executive Fellow at climate think tank Arctic Base Camp, and is board adviser to Tellmi, who produce a mental health app for young people. He is a Trustee of the Royal Humane Society. His book, Creating Strategy, A Practical Guide was published in 2021.

John Brown is an accomplished and globally recognized communications professional with a strong track record of leading high-performance teams and developing strategic communications programs for national and international organizations. With a deep understanding of sustainability and environmental issues, John has been a key figure in shaping influential campaigns and engaging stakeholders across various sectors.

As the current head of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, John oversees strategic initiatives that foster economic growth and community engagement. He has also founded and successfully run multiple award-winning brand and creative consultancies. His career is marked by notable achievements such as being recognized in the PR Week Powerbook as one of the top communicators for four consecutive years, and leading his previous agency through B Corp certification.

John’s expertise spans integrated communications, digital marketing, branding, and stakeholder engagement. He has delivered keynote speeches at prominent industry summits and developed communications strategies for high-profile clients including Natura &Co, Statkraft, lululemon, COOK, Frugi, Virgin, and B Lab Global.

John holds a B.Sc. in Environment and Conservation Biology from Bournemouth University and is completing an M.Sc. in Sustainable Futures from the University of Exeter. His educational background complements his professional endeavors, reinforcing his commitment to environmental sustainability and strategic communication.

Gerry Hamblin-Deere

With a background in business development and supplier relations, Gerry has spent the past 4 years managing the global operations and logistics for an SME, in Cornwall. She is an accomplished post-Brexit trade wiz and can offer guidance on EU imports/exports (wholesale/retail). She’ll show you how to navigate customs declarations and clearance processes and will walk you through the benefits of registering for a European VAT no. She can also provide tips to help you choose the right courier and freight services.

Jonathan Maiden has an international career shaped across a variety of sectors including aerospace, finance, energy, charity, education and software.

He successfully founded and grew a software business developing Management Information Systems for schools, servicing initially the UK before expanding and developing into European and Australasian markets. Having successfully sold the business, Jonathan then re-trained as a traditional boat builder before joining University of Exeter, bringing his commercial expertise to a role supporting the growth of the region’s marine and clean energy sectors.
