About this Event
Build confidence. Learn to see. Draw with intention.
Join us for a welcoming, hands-on drawing series led by artist Cheryl Meehan. This class focuses on the essential building blocks of drawing—line, shape, proportion, perspective, and shading—through guided instruction and observational exercises.
Whether you’re returning to drawing after time away or looking to strengthen your core skills, Drawing Fundamentals offers a supportive environment to slow down, observe closely, and grow more confident with every session.
What You’ll Explore
Over four sessions, participants will:
- Practice drawing from observation using shared objects
- Build accuracy with line, shape, and proportion
- Explore perspective and spatial relationships
- Learn shading techniques to create depth and form
- Develop a stronger foundation for any creative practice
Each session includes demonstrations, guided exercises, and plenty of drawing time.

Session Breakdown
Week 1: Seeing Accurately
We’ll begin by learning how to see like a drawer. Students will be introduced to plumb lines, angles, and comparative measuring—simple but powerful tools for achieving accuracy in proportion and placement. You’ll apply these techniques through guided observational drawing and begin your first drawing.
Week 2: Light, Shadow & Depth
This session focuses on value and shading. We’ll explore how light interacts with form and how to use a range of values to create depth, volume, and dimension. Students will continue developing their drawing while learning shading techniques that bring images to life.
Week 3: Starting Fresh & Refining Skills
Students will begin a second drawing, revisiting and reinforcing the measuring techniques from Week 1. With a stronger foundation in place, this session emphasizes refinement—applying plumb lines, angles, and comparative measuring with more confidence and ease.
Week 4: Finishing with Intention
We’ll return to value and shading concepts from Week 2, focusing on refinement and completion of the second drawing. Students will learn how to push contrast, unify their work, and know when a drawing feels finished.
