Benson Brass Collective – press release
Announcing the Benson Brass Collective (BBC)!
After a successful trio of performances in 2024, the members of this newly formed brass ensemble are looking forward to sharing their love of fine brass music with Gabriola Island residents.
The BBC will present a program “From Gabrieli to Gabriola, Bach to the Beatles - Music for a Winter Afternoon.” This will take place on January 19th beginning at 2 pm at Christchurch Gabriola, 2600 South Road.
The program will include pieces written specifically for brass instruments, from Gabrieli’s “Canzon 2”(1608) to the famous piccolo trumpet solo in the Beatles song “Penny Lane.” Arrangements for brass of music from the genres of folk, jazz, pop, and classical repertoire will also be heard.
A unique treat will be two pieces that were inspired by, and composed on, Gabriola Island by BBC member (and Gabriola resident) Andrew Clayden. They include the three-movement “Gabriola Suite” and the evocative “Towering Firs, Healing Cedars.”

The Benson Brass Collective for this concert includes:
