Join us for a FREE and educational event hosted by Wild Ones Smoky Mountains, dedicated to winter sowing and planting native seeds. Connect with like-minded people, learn about the benefits of native plants, and take home plantings to nurture - we'll bring them back together on April 13, 2024 to share the many species of young plants with all participants! What to Expect:
Learn about the Winter Sowing method and why it is so useful when growing native plants (or any plants!) and learn about the importance to wildlife of some of the species that will be sown. Learn care and maintenance of containers and seedlings during the winter months. Ask questions and engage in discussions with fellow nature enthusiasts.
Every participant will foster the containers they sow, and we'll get the containers back together April 13 at noon, to share out all the species that germinated (there will be many, many seedlings in each species container!)
Wild Ones will provide containers, native plant seeds, labels, markers, tape and growing mix. Participants can bring their native seeds to share. If you have a cordless drill and a 1/4" drill bit, please bring it. You may want to bring gardening gloves (but we like to get the soil under our fingernails at this time of year!)
Please bring plastic bags or other protection for your vehicle, to make getting your containers home easier.
Please watch this excellent presentation about Winter Sowing prior to the event:
Who Can Attend: This event is FREE and open to the public! Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting, everyone is welcome.
Our meeting space is located in the Carriage House building at Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum. This event will not be livestreamed via Zoom, but presentation materials will be available on our website after the fact.
