About this Event
This one-day workshop introduces participants to flameworking with borosilicate glass. Students will learn how to rent time at UrbanGlass, be a steward of the studio, set up torches, and get comfortable in the flame shop. The class will have suggested activities but will be loosely structured. You are welcome to explore what speaks to you (think small sculptural objects such as chains, marbles, or flora and fauna in borosilicate glass)
What to Expect: About 35% of this class will be instruction, demos, and conversation to ensure participants leave with enough knowledge to feel safe and comfortable renting in the studio afterward. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No Experience Required. This workshop is designed with the LQBTQ community in mind, but anyone looking to join the Urban Glass community is welcome. If you want to cross flameworking off your bucket list, please consider taking one of Urban Glasses’ one-day workshops. Open to ages 18 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight then be carefully removed from the mandrels, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
Sliding-scale Pricing: Please self-select the pricing tier most appropriate for your financial situation. Those who are able to should select the higher tuition so that we can continue to offer our programs with ample staffing of expert teaching artists, and top quality glassmaking tools and materials in our state of the art studios.
