About this Event
Join us for a guided tour of Bakehouse Art Complex, led by the Curatorial Manager and Executive Director. Guests will explore how an Art Deco–era industrial bread factory was once transformed into a site for contemporary cultural production– moving through communal fabrication spaces, active artist studios, and exhibitions that reflect the building’s layered history and its evolving role within the neighborhood. Along the way, we’ll discuss the strategies behind preserving industrial character while meeting the needs of a growing creative community.
The tour culminates with a presentation on FUTURE, a site-specific installation designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture. Conceived as a compound where culture compounds, FUTURE proposes a pioneering model of culture-driven development that fuses affordable housing, artist studios, and public space into a cohesive architectural vision. Emphasizing authenticity and community-rooted design, the installation outlines a bold framework for how architecture can catalyze creativity, safeguard affordability, and shape the next chapter of Bakehouse and South Florida at large.
