Take a guided city nature walk on Amager Fælled with historian and journalist Majken Astrup from the podcast ‘Voices from Amar’. The walk will be in English.
The majority of Amager Fælled is man-made and has existed for several centuries on the good fortune of the city and the king. The area is rich in plant and animal life, where rare and protected species have settled. But unfortunately large parts of the area are also deeply polluted!
There are many interesting stories related to the nature of Amager Fælled. The Cultural House of Islands Brygge therefore arranges two English-language walks on Amager Fælled with historian and journalist Majken Astrup.
Majken Astrup produces the podcast Voices from Amar, Stemmer fra Amar, which tells the whole story of Amager - and then she is, very importantly, herself living on the island with her family.
“I think the industrial and cultural history out here is really fascinating. Amager Fælled has largely been created due to the needs of the city and the growing industrialization. Large parts of the area is quite polluted but at the same time we have a fantastic natural area, which probably would be city by now if it hadn’t been dump site"- Majken Astrup says.
Join Majken on a family-friendly and educational walk on Amager Fælled. Hear her talk about waste and chemicals in raw quantities, learn more about our relationship with nature and how climate change will affect Amager in the future. On the trip, Majken will talk about the creation, utilization and the changes that have taken place along the way - man-made as well as natural.
