Focus on building a family tree and discovering deeper connections with ancestors by relentless exploration of census and vital records, oral histories, other primary source documents, DNA evidence, and past events to learn what affected and shaped their lives.
Dr. Shari L. Williams is a Public Historian and independent scholar. She established The Ridge Macon County Archaeology Project (https://digtheridge.com) where she is the Executive Director. She has authored and co-authored numerous publications focused on history, family roots, and folk life. Dr. Williams currently serves on the Alabama Folklife Association’s (AFA) Board of Directors as President, and on the AFA Editorial Board. She also serves on the Boards of the Alabama Historical Association (AHA), and the Black Belt African American Genealogical and Historical Society (BBAAGHS).
