Elaine Pritchard will be giving an illustrated talk on Vale Rawlings to members of Burton's Family History Group at 10am on Friday 10th October - and visitors are welcome. Although Elaine will mention the 'fly-catcher girls strike' of 1914, which shot Burton man Vale to fame, THIS talk will focus on some of the other stories that are also in her forthcoming book - 'Friendship, Love and Truth' These will include more detail about the fight for votes for women in Burton upon Trent; Vale's time as a conscientious objector in World War One and the tragic story of Constance Shreeve, who died in Burton's workhouse in 1929. So if you've seen the play (or the film of it) this will cover new ground for you.
The group meets upstairs at Burton Library and it's just £2 admission (cash only please) on the door. This includes a cup of tea or coffee during a mid-morning interval. If you enjoy history, do consider coming along and learning more about this group and meeting its friendly members. Do drop us a message if you intend to visit so we know numbers.
