About this Event
Discover the Neponset: a river of history and renewal - Please join Laurie Zapalac for a delightful Saturday morning outdoors exploring one of the most beautiful river corridors in the region on Saturday, June 21, 2025. This two-hour walking tour along the lower Neponset River, Boston’s southern border with Quincy and Milton.
Together, we’ll uncover the unique features that have made the Neponset River a hub of human settlement and a catalyst for innovation throughout history. From pre-colonial times and early industrialization to the rise of major industries like the Baker Chocolate Factory—once one of North America’s leading chocolate producers—we’ll trace the river’s evolution.
As we walk, we’ll also explore ongoing ecological restoration efforts and the recreational enhancements transforming the riverfront today. Discover how neighborhoods along the Neponset continue to embrace the river as a place of inspiration, relaxation, and renewal.
Please dress appropriately for walking and for the weather and meet at the Milton station T stop (of the Red line - Mattapan trolley).
