Join the Friends of Mason Neck State Park for our presentation of The Secret Lives of Hawks and Owls - with our live birds or prey of course!Do you know why birds of prey sneeze (it's not allergies!), what screech owls have in common with skunks, or that barred owls have a secret "off switch"? Did you know that barn owls have a very long and strange relationship with the Smithsonian? You'll meet our ambassador hawks, owls, and tiny falcon up close and personal as they help us share some fascinating secrets about their lives and behaviors. We'll dispel a few myths too and open the discussion for you to share stories about any odd and unique experiences you've had with birds of prey. And, of course, you'll have an opportunity to get a selfie with you favorite raptor!
Last year, a wild barred owl joined us to protest the presence of our barred owl, Scarlett, at the park. It was exciting! Who knows what excitement this year will bring? Join us to find out.
