Friedrich Barnabás első önálló kiállítása ironikus látleletet nyújt Kelet-Európa jelenjéről és elmúlt évtizedeiről. A címből szándékosan hiányzó “közép” kifejezés az elvesztett szellemi, politikai és gazdasági orientációs irányt mutatja. A negyedem szó utalás Curtis Újpest a negyedem című számára, amellyel Friedrich büszkén felvállalja azt a tárgykultúrát, szociokulturális közeget, amelyet cinikusan megmutat a festményein, és varázstalanított Wunderkammer formájában tárja elénk a valóságot, amiben élünk. Mintha a Megáll az idő ikonikus mondatát, a „Jó, hát akkor itt fogunk élni” -t parafrazálná, és azt mondaná: „Jó, hát így éltünk eddig is és ezután is így fogunk”.

Barnabás Friedrich: Eastern Europe is my hood

Barnabás Friedrich's first solo exhibition offers an ironic reflection on the present and past decades of Eastern Europe. The deliberate omission of the term "central" from the title highlights the lost intellectual, political, and economic orientation. The phrase "Eastern Europe is my hood" references the Hungarian rapper Curtis’s song Újpest a negyedem (Újpest is My Hood), through which Friedrich proudly embraces the sociocultural milieu he cynically depicts in his paintings. He unveils the reality we live in through the format of a disenchanted Wunderkammer. It’s akin to paraphrasing the iconic line from the Hungarian movie Time Stands Still (1982): "Well, we’ll live here then," reinterpreted in this context as, "Well, we’ve been living like this all along, and we’ll keep living this way."
